ARENA… der jungen Künste
ARENA… der jungen Künste ist ein internationales Theaterfestival mit den Schwerpunkten Körpertheater, Tanz und Performance. Im Rahmenprogramm zeigt sich das Festival offen für alle Arten von experimentellen und intermedialen Kunstformen.
ARENA zeigt Projekte, dich sich abseits des institutionalisierten Theatersystems entwickelt haben und will damit den künstlerischen Austausch innerhalb der freien Theaterszene fördern. Eine Besonderheit des Festivals ist es, immer wieder neue Aufführungsräume zu entdecken.
ARENA… der jungen Künste findet vom 24.-29. Juni zum 18. Mal in Erlangen statt und steht in diesem Jahr unter dem Motto FREIRAUM. Wir suchen deshalb Stücke und Performances, die sich inhaltlich oder formal schwerpunktmäßig mit dem Thema Raum auseinandersetzen, wie beispielsweise:
– Outdoor Performances/ Interventionen, die nach den Schnittstellen von Theater und öffentlichem Raum, von Performance im Alltag und auf der Bühne suchen
– Site-Specific Performances, die sich mit der Wirkung oder den geschichtlichen Aspekten des jeweiligen Spielortes auseinandersetzen
– Medienkunst/ Installationen und Performances, die sich mit virtuellen Räumen und der Schaffung körperlicher Präsenz auch ohne Live-Charakter beschäftigen
– Stücke und Performances, die in konventionellen Theaterräumen stattfinden, diesen Raum jedoch in besonderer Weise thematisieren (z.B.: Aufbruch der Trennung von Bühnen- und Zuschauerraum, Auseinandersetzung mit dem Körper im Raum, Schaffung von theatralen Räumen im Raum mit den unterschiedlichsten Mitteln)
Diese Aufzählung soll nur als Anregung dienen. Viele weitere Formen der künstlerischen Auseinandersetzung mit Räumlichkeit sind denkbar. Bewerbungen können bis zum 1. März eingereicht werden. Bewerbungsformulare und weitere Informationen finden sich auf unserer Website www.arena-festival.de.
ARENA übernimmt die Kosten für Reise, Verpflegung und Unterkunft teilnehmender Gruppen. Auch Repräsentanten anderer Festivals sind als Promoter herzlich eingeladen.

of the young arts 2008
ARENA… of the young arts is an international theatre festival showcasing physical theatre, dance and performance. In addition to the main events, the festival’s supporting programme encompasses further experimental and multi-medial art forms as an integral part of its framework.
ARENA provides a platform for projects that branch off from the institutional theater system and therefore tries to encourage artistic exchange within the free theatre community. One of the festival’s defining features is its drive to discover new performance spaces.
ARENA… of the young arts will take place 24th-29th June, 2008, in Erlangen, with the theme of FREIRAUM/ OPEN SPACE. We are therefore looking for pieces and performances that have specific emphasis on the theme of space either in form or content, for example:
– Outdoor performances/interventions that seek to blur the boundaries between theatre and public space and between performance in everyday life and on the stage.
– Site specific performances that examine the properties or historical aspects of their respective venues.
– Media arts/installations that consider virtual spaces and can create physical presence even when there are no live characters.
– Pieces and performances that take place in conventional theatre spaces but utilize the room in particular ways (eg : by intentionally rejecting the distance between the stage and the audience, exploring spatial awareness and the body, or creating theatrical spaces within a room, using diverse techniques.
These examples should only be used as suggestions. The artistic exploration of space is possible in any other way imaginable. Applications must be submitted by 1st March, 2008.
