Intensified dialogues is investigating the permanent conflicts in our daily life encounters on an emotional and intellectual level. As social beings, we are thinking in categories and classifications, we are consisting of numerous contradictions regarding our personal history and origins. This influences our behaviours and images in encounters with each other.
During the workshop we will experience our differences in the ways we are sharing ideas and interests and dealing with conflicts and limitations. This cultural, emotional and aesthetical diversity is seen as a value and a chance to formulate and express individual positions and intensify each individual artistic expression.
We will use a variety of techniques and exercises to focus on the perception of our own personality, develop skills to communicate with the body, and transform ideas into a performative work. The main aim of this workshop is to understand our conflictive nature and how we can use it in an artistic way.
This PAStudies will be realized as part of the InterAkcje Festival for Performance Art 2011 curated by Arti Grabowski.
Interakcje
The international performance art festival Interakcje has a years long tradition in the polish performance art culture organized by Piotr Gajda and Gordian Piec. The festival hosted many of international artists during the years and in 2011 the polsih artist Artur Grabowski is the curator. The festival will focus on the broader meant term conflicts and emotions and is looking for the contrast between those two elemts. Grabowski will invite a list of very interesting international artists including Stelarc, Antoni Karwowski, Essi Kausalainen, Herma Auguste Wittstock, Soren Dahlgaard , Jan Świdziński, just to mention a few. As part of the festival Grabowski invited PAS – Performance Art Studies during the time of the festival to offer the PAStudies under the topic Intensified dialog. Participants will have the opportunity to get in contact with the artists and be part of the whole festival. We will also travel from Piotrkow Trybunalski to Kraków where we will show performances as part of the extended part of the Interakcje festival as well.
Working method and Strategies
With the guidance and direction of the facilitators, participants will use a variety of techniques and exercises to focus perception of one’s own personality, develop skills to communicate with the body, and transform ideas into a performative work. Personal perception and experience color and characterize how we communicate and deal with the body in time and space during performance. The main objective of PAStudies is to understand the body as a tool and to use this tool to communicate effectively in performance. Besides the artistic opportunity, PAStudies provide some cultural specials.
PAS – Performance Art Sudies OFFER:
==> to develop an Art Performance with technical, pedagogical and artistically guidance
==> to Investigate and work with a variety of performative exercises in various conditions, in- and outdoor which focuses on: body, time, space, concentration, endurance (both in groups and individually) and images.
==> a final public presentation of the performance (media promotion, poster, mailing) and final celebration
==> Video and photo documentation of the 10-days process and final presentation, made by Matthias Pick (Photography) and Christopher Hewitt (Video)
==> publication of the Documentation on PAS website and other Performance Art related websites and blogs,
==> Contacts with artists, curators and art institutions in Poland
==> Meeting and cooperation with other like-minded people from other countries
==> Encounters, lectures and discussions with the invited artists of the festival
==> Context of the place, Polish history and culture
==> Free accommodation in Piotryków Trybunlaski and Kraków Poland (10 days)
==> The studies are ideal for art students, young artists and all other people who are interested in Performance Art. The range of ages in the past PAStudies was from 17 to 62 and the level of experience is not a criteria for to participate in PAStudies. Usually the group is composed by international artists coming from different backgrounds and different parts of the world.
==> PAStudies takes place at least with 8 participants.
