Dismember/ Remember (part III )
You Can't Beat a Dead Horse

Duration: 2-3 hours

I will suspend a horse shaped pinata from a tree and give control over it to the audience. I will blindfold myself, spin until I am dizzy and then try to break open the pinata with a wooden dowel. Once the pinata is broken apart I will take off the blindfold and try to re-member the horse in any way I can.
This performance is the third in a series dealing with violence engendered by religion. This piece will involve a pinata, a blindfold and a wooden dowel. The audience will be invited to participate.

  Dismember/ Remember (part I )
Duration: 3 hours
2005 | Post Festival, Chile

I began with a row of urinals filled with red wine and fifty loaves of bread all torn into small pieces and placed in a pile. I wore a white dressing gown. The sound in the room was the “thwap” of a wooden dowel striking a soft body over and over. I lay the bread out across the floor and slowly begin to piece together the original loaves. Each time I complete a loaf I carry it to the front of the room, fill my mouth with wine from the urinals and spit the wine into the cracks of the bread. Re-membering what was dis-membered and bringing it back to life.

  Dismember/ Remember (part II )
Duration: 2.5 hours
2006 | NRLA, Scotland

I began with a large pile of bread dough into which lamb meat and human hair had been incorporated. I sit in a spotlight under a slow drip of red wine onto my head, face and back. I separate the meat and hair from the dough and place them each in separate piles. Once the dough is pure I wrap it around my neck and chest and lie under the dripping wine. I set a small timer for one hour and lie still until the timer sounds.
